One of many Stolem figures I created for the City of Kościerzyna.
This particular Stolem represents a strongman figure associated with uprooting and replanting trees. The concept for the Stolem sculpture series was initiated in 2018, and since then around ten different figures have been installed throughout the streets of the city. Each of them holds an attribute presenting a different aspect of this remarkable character known from Kashubian legends.
The character was designed as part of a broader concept — a planned trail of Kashubian Stolems that could appear in various regions across Kashubia.
The Stolem was intended to be both humorous and powerful, at times resembling a slightly clumsy strongman, yet also sensitive to beauty and nature.
The original model was created in plasticine. This particular version has not yet been cast in bronze, however earlier variations of the character were produced in bronze and can be encountered while walking through the streets of Kościerzyna.
