Alien – Sculptural Sketch
Alien. Another creature study, again sculpted in NSP Medium clay. This time I was looking for a character that would feel like a beast on one side, but at the same time suggest that there is something more in it than just a creature.
It’s not easy to build a form that is interesting visually while still carrying that kind of intention. It’s much easier to create creatures that sit on opposite ends of that spectrum. What’s more difficult is searching for subtle nuances — the things that make a character feel more believable, complex and less obvious. These are also the elements that make us want to stop for a moment, look at the figure longer and try to read what is really going on inside the character.
